PBSAintel is a free information resource about the UK higher-education market. Please read this page before using the site, its charts or its downloads. By using the site, you accept these terms.
1. Who we are
PBSAintel (pbsaintel.com) is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by HESA, Jisc, UCAS, the Home Office, QS Quacquarelli Symonds, any university, or any employer or client of the people who run it. Content on this site does not represent the views of any of those organisations.
2. Information only, not advice
Everything on this site is general information. It is not investment, financial, legal, tax, valuation or other professional advice. It is not a recommendation to buy, sell, fund, develop, lend against or lease any property or other asset, or to enter into any transaction. It does not take account of your circumstances or objectives.
3. Not for reliance
Do not rely on this site alone for any decision. Before using any figure, check it against the original publisher's release (linked on every chart and on the data sources page) and take independent professional advice. You are responsible for any decision you make and for how you use the information.
4. Accuracy, completeness and timeliness
We take care to reproduce official data accurately and to check our calculations. However, the site is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty, express or implied, that it is accurate, complete, current or fit for any purpose. In particular:
- Publishers round, suppress, revise and correct their data. Some figures are provisional.
- Different sources cover different periods. We label each one, but they are not directly comparable.
- There may be a delay between a publisher's release and our update, and errors may occur when we process the data.
- The site may be unavailable, changed or withdrawn at any time without notice.
5. Our calculations and indicators
Where we calculate something the publisher does not, such as a rate, share or change, it is marked "calculated by PBSAintel". It reflects our methodology, which is described on the relevant page.
- Financial health indicators are our own assessment of published historical accounts. They are not regulatory assessments, credit ratings or audit opinions, and do not predict whether an institution will remain solvent or financially sustainable.
- Enrolments, applications and visas describe students and applicants. They are not measures of demand for student accommodation in any location.
- Rankings are shown as published by their compiler. We do not endorse any ranking methodology.
6. Third-party data and licences
The underlying data belongs to its publishers and is used under their licences, including the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (HESA and UCAS) and the Open Government Licence v3.0 (Home Office). Each chart and download carries the required attribution. The data sources page lists every dataset, its licence and the date we last downloaded it. Displaying this data does not mean any publisher endorses PBSAintel or our analysis.
QS World University Rankings data is used under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), as set out on QS's data copyright page. We show each rank exactly as QS displays it, with the credit "Source: QS Quacquarelli Symonds (www.topuniversities.com). Copyright © QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd." on the rankings page, and offer no QS download on the site. QS does not endorse PBSAintel.
The university finance indicators also use figures taken from universities' own annual reports and audited financial statements, downloaded from each university's website. These documents are not published under an open licence and their copyright remains with each university. We reproduce only the figures and short quotations needed for our analysis, credit each one as "© [university], reproduced for reference", and link to the original document. The data sources page lists every set of accounts we use.
7. Copyright and trade marks

The PBSAintel name and logo, the site's design, text and code, and our methodologies and derived calculations are owned by PBSAintel. You may not use the PBSAintel name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product.
8. Sharing our charts and downloads
You may share, reproduce and quote our charts, tables and downloads, including in commercial work, on these conditions:
- You credit us as "Source: PBSAintel (pbsaintel.com), using data from [publisher]", and keep the publisher's own attribution and licence notice.
- You do not alter the figures or present them misleadingly, and you do not suggest that we or the publisher endorse your use.
- Rankings content is excluded. QS rankings data is subject to QS's own licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), which does not allow commercial use or changes. Reuse it from topuniversities.com on QS's terms.
- Figures taken from universities' audited accounts remain © each university. Quote them with that credit.

9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PBSAintel accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, this site, its content or its downloads, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise. This includes direct, indirect or consequential loss and loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity or data. Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10. Links to other websites
We link to publishers' websites so you can check our figures. We are not responsible for the content, availability or terms of those sites.
11. Corrections
If you think a figure is wrong, please tell us at [email protected], with the page and the figure. We will check it against the source, correct any error we find, and note material corrections on the relevant page.
12. Changes and governing law
We may update this disclaimer at any time. The version on this page applies from the date shown at the top. This disclaimer is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
