Context behind the numbers.
University coverage, not campus demand. Covers the 24 Russell Group universities. A university's totals may include students at other locations and on distance learning.
Published counts, approximate shares. HESA rounds counts to multiples of five; a displayed zero can represent a small count. PBSAintel calculates percentages from rounded values, suppressing them when the denominator is below 25. These are not official HESA percentages.
All enrolments. Counts are all enrolled students, not new entrants; HESA's country table cannot separate entrants.
Domicile. HESA's country of permanent address before study, shown here as domicile. It is not nationality.
Comparability. 2022/23 was the first collection under HESA's new data model (Data Futures). The standard registration population changed, so writing-up students may now be included (HESA finding 22056039). Some providers have missing domicile (permanent address) data, including continuing students whose records could not be carried over (22056061). Treat 2021/22 to 2022/23 as a break in the series, and expect a possible rise in "Not known" domicile. Country labels follow the 2024/25 release. The five-year window includes pandemic-affected periods, when delayed starts moved enrolments between years. Provider-specific findings from HESA's quality notes are shown on the affected universities.
